The School Day

At first glance, the daily timetable at St Nicholas House does not look very different to that of the very best primary schools. However, additional core tuition as well as many curriculal and extra-curricular clubs means your child will benefit from far more.

Time Activities
8.00-8.30 am

'Early Bird Club - Here children can be dropped off at the Dining Hall for a substantial but healthy hot/cold breakfast. The children will be supervised by junior staff.

8.30-8.45 am Before school playtime - Early Bird pupils return to St Nicholas House for outdoor play/activities. Other pupils arrive at the school playgournd with their parents.
8.45-8.55 am Registration - The School Bell will ring to signal the start of the school day. Time to go into school, settle into class, read quietly or prepare for assembly.
8.55-9.15 am Assembly/Chapel - Assembly is where we learn about the wider world and spirituality, sing hymns and recognise outstanding achievements or contributions. Pupils will enjoy assembly at St Nicholas House or at the Neuadd. We will also attend chapel once a fortnight.
9.15-10.25 am Lesson 1 - First lesson of the day. This is usually Literacy or Numeracy but could be Guided Reading or Thinking Skills.
10.25-10.45 am Break Time - Pupils can play on our Adventure & Agility structure with our fantastic 'Timber Tangle'. Others may decide on a kickabout on the adjacent mini-Astro pitch. Some pupils may be having an instrumental lesson, from piano to percussion.
10.45-12.00 noon Lesson 2 - The second lesson of the day will usually be Literacy or Numeracy but it could be IT in our fantastic new networked IT suite.
12.00-1.00 pm Lunchtime - Time for the whole school including staff to head to the Dining Hall. Pupils will enjoy a delicious, healthy and balanced meal, and will be taught good manners and etiquette at the heart of a meal time. Some pupils may also attend a music lesson.
1.00-2.05pm Lesson 3 - Back to class and pupils may be receiving a Music lesson in the Music School with our specialist teachers, or getting messy in our 'Busy Room' whilst doing cookery, Science or Art. We will explore our topics in the afternoons and may be learning about Henry VIII, or how to be a Global Gourmet! We will also go swimming one afternoon per week too.
2.05-3.30 pm In the afternoons, children will enjoy a weekly PE lesson in the school's Sports Hall, or perhaps visit the school's Science centre with a specialist teacher (J5&J6). This is also a time where they will learn French or Welsh and have their daily guided reading session.
3.30 pm  End of Lessons
3.30-3.45 pm The Daily K fitness initiative followed by a snack and a drink before getting ready for prep and the many clubs and activities on offer.
3.45-4.50 pm

Monday &Thursday Games (Compulsory for all)  -  Monday and Thursday afternoons are also the time when all pupils will particiapte in Games sessions with our specialist sports teachers.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, once children have completed prep, extra-curricular school clubs will be on offer.  Is it time for Lego, chess, gardening club, choir, ballet, speech & drama (LAMDA), arts & crafts or even an iPad club!

5.00pm End of the school day and pick up for those not staying for Supper Club.
5.00-6.00 pm

Supervised Supper Club in the Dining Hall for those pupils who have registered to stay involves a hot supper and table-top activities until they are collected or leave on the daily buses. Additional charges apply for this service.

6.00 pm Time to go home - Pupils are either collected by their parents,  escorted to the school buses or to their boarding house.
